    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Easy Recipe This is an easy dinner recipe that can be cooked in a skillet, on the stovetop, or an outdoor grill.
    • 30-Minute Recipe Enough said, lol. These spinach and feta turkey burgers take me 30 minutes or less, including the few minutes it takes to wilt the spinach.
    • Simple Ingredients Next time you head to the grocery store, grab a pound of ground turkey, baby spinach, feta cheese, garlic powder, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, and hamburger buns. Burger night will be set!
    • Meal Prep I've been making extra of these spinach and feta turkey burgers for years so I can reheat them quickly when I'm in a pinch for time. I prefer to use my air fryer to reheat them, but a microwave will work, too.

    Dietitian Tip

Using the right kitchen tools is a great way to save time and lessen stress when cooking. For this recipe, I use kitchen shears (scissors) to cut the cooked spinach into smaller pieces, a meat and potato masher for mashing everything together, and a measuring cup to scoop and pack the mixture before I put it on the skillet. They can all be found in my Kitchen Gift Guide for Busy Families.

    Ingredient notes

    • Ground turkey Good source of protein. 99% lean ground turkey is a lean protein. To make juicy burgers, use less 'lean' ground turkey.
    • Spinach Use fresh spinach. I think it's easier to sauté fresh spinach than having to defrost and drain frozen chopped spinach. Spinach adds a nice color to turkey burgers. It also gives you an extra dose of iron, vitamin A, vitamin E, zinc, and fiber.
    • Feta Cheese I suggest buying a block of feta instead of feta crumbles from the grocery store.
    • Egg White Good source of protein. Egg helps bind these burgers together.
    • Worcestershire Sauce Added for flavor.
    • Garlic Powder Added for flavor. Can use minced garlic instead.

How to Make Feta and Spinach Turkey Burgers

Four numbered images showing how to make spinach and feta turkey burgers.

Here’s a quick overview of the steps to make these easy turkey burgers. For the full recipe with a complete list of ingredients and instructions, scroll down to the recipe card.

    1. Sauté spinach in a minimal amount of avocado or other neutral oil until spinach is wilted. I use an avocado oil nonstick spray to grease my skillet and that's enough to sauté the spinach.
    2. Add feta cheese and ground turkey to a large mixing bowl. Use a food masher to break up the feta cheese. Add the remainder of the ingredients and mash ingredients together well. I use a meat and potato masher for this step.
    3. Use a one-quarter cup measuring cup to form each patty. Place turkey burger patties onto a hot skillet or grill pan (medium heat or medium-high heat, depending on your skillet). Use the back side of a fork to flatten the mixture, creating a burger patty.
    4. Sprinkle the top of each patty with garlic powder and cook for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit and the burgers are browned.

    Helpful Tips

    • Form raw patties by packing turkey mixture into a one-quarter measuring cup to ensure turkey patties are cooked in equal portions.
    • Cooking time will vary depending on the size of the burgers and the heat setting of your stovetop.
    • When doubling the recipe, you can use one whole egg instead of two egg whites, for less waste.
    • Use an instant-read thermometer (meat thermometer) to ensure the internal temperature of each turkey burger reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • I do not recommend using feta crumbles because of 'anti-caking agents' added that give it a different texture (feta crumbles will be more noticeable in burgers).
    • Blocks of feta typically have a longer shelf life and offer fewer ingredients than the crumbles - just a few added benefits of using blocked feta!
    • The flavor of feta does not stand out in this recipe, so even if you and/or your kids don't love feta, you should still try these!
    • Can add fresh herbs to the turkey burger mixture to enhance the flavor even more.
    • I use a square griddle pan that cooks up to 9 turkey burgers at a time. You can also use two skillets to cut the cooking time in half.
    • Cooking tip: toss sliced red onion and mushrooms on the pan while the burgers cook for a grilled veggie effect. Sauteed onion and mushrooms with avocado slices are my favorite toppings for turkey burgers! Yum!
    • Allow leftover turkey burgers to cool to room temperature before storing them refrigerated in an airtight container.

What to Serve with Turkey Burgers

    • Freshly sliced avocado or Guacamole are delicious on top of turkey burgers.
    • Sweet Potato Fries Nothing tastes better than a burger served with fries. 🙌

    • Baked beans
    • Fruit Salad

    Questions You May Have

What % ground turkey should I use?

It depends on your personal preference.

Fat adds moisture, so burgers made with regular ground turkey (not lean) will be juicier.

Still, spinach, feta, and Worcestershire sauce also add moisture, so these burgers won't be terribly dry even if you use 99% lean ground turkey.

I like to double the recipe and use a combination (one pound lean (99% lean) and one pound less lean (93%) ground turkey) when making spinach feta turkey burgers.

What do you serve with turkey burgers?

I suggest serving these delicious burgers with a side of chips and guacamole and/or fresh fruit salad.

    Are turkey burgers gluten free?

Not all turkey burgers are. Some storebought turkey burgers use gluten-containing ingredients like breadcrumbs.

As for this recipe, if you use gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, then these turkey burgers are gluten-free.

Can these turkey burgers be cooked on the grill?

I suggest using a grill stone for cooking these on a hot grill (I use a RockCrock grill stone from Pampered Chef). These spinach and feta turkey burgers may stick to the grill grates and end up falling apart, if place directly on the grill.

    • 1 Food masher
    • 1 kitchen schears also known as kitchen scissors. used to cut spinach into smaller pieces.
    • 1 small spatula

    Ingredients

    • 3 cups baby spinach
    • 1 pound ground turkey lean
    • 4 ounces feta cheese do not use pre-crumbled feta
    • 1 egg white
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce one splash
    • ¼ tso Garlic powder

    Instructions

    • Use a minimal amount of oil to sauté spinach in a skillet on medium heat. I use avocado oil spray to coat my skillet and that is enough oil to sauté the spinach.
    • Add the cooked spinach, ground turkey, feta cheese, egg white, and a splash or two of Worcestershire sauce to a large bowl and mash it all together. A meat or potato masher works well for this step.
    • Pack a ¼ cup of the meat mixture in a ¼-cup measuring cup to form each patty. Place each patty on a hot and lightly oiled square griddle pan or large skillet.
    • Dust the top of the burger with garlic powder and cook for 4-5 minutes.
    • Use a small spatula to flip the burger over and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165° F.

    • This recipe is easily doubled. If doubled, you can use one whole egg instead of two egg whites to minimize waste.
    • Use feta cheese that comes in a block because it is easier to mash into the turkey meat and will blend in nicely. Crumbled feta will not blend in as well.
    • Leftovers reheat well and are perfect for lunches, too!
    • Cooking time will vary depending on how many burgers will fit on your pan at one time.
    • Can add freshly minced garlic to the meat mixture instead of topping each patty with garlic powder.
    • Cooking tip: toss sliced onions and mushrooms on the pan while the burgers cook for a grilled veggie effect. They make excellent toppings! So does sliced Avocado!
